80 Day Obsession: Review and Results

80 Days... 13 Weeks... 3 Months. Seemed like a long time before I started this program. I remember thinking “I don’t know if I can commit to a fitness and nutrition program for 80 Days”. But I decided to give it a try. And I LOVED it!

80 days flew by, and what I learned was that this wasn’t just 80 days but a new lifestyle. I was into working out before starting this program but I have taken it to a whole new level. I workout for myself, for my family, for my health, for my happiness... this list goes on and on.

This program has been a game changer for many, myself included.

Haven’t heard of 80 Day Obsession?! (Are you living under a rock?!?) This program is a 13 week health and fitness program by Beachbody, the creators of programs such as 21 Day Fix, Insanity, P90X , and so many more! There are 80 workouts, 6 workouts each week with Sunday’s being a rest day.

You also follow timed nutrition which is eating certain foods at certain times of the day to fuel your body and your workout to get the best results. Let’s dive into some more details and my thoughts on everything.

The Workouts

The program is broken down into 3 phases and a peak week for the last week. Each phase is 4 weeks long and Each workout is different which is awesome because it helps you not get bored with your workouts and your body will keep changing because you are changing up your workouts each day.

Phase 1
Phase 1 was all about learning the basics of some of the moves we would be doing in the later 2 phases. The first week of the program many people go through a “detox”. Basically your body is getting rid of and flushing out all of the bad toxins and replacing them with all of the good healthy food you are eating. I suffered from a slight headache but other than that I was OK. Others were tired and grumpy but I promise if you stick it out and get through that first week you will feel amazing once your body adjusts to the healthy foods. This is the phase I lost the most weight in, 5 pounds.

(End of Phase 1 Results 30 days)

Phase 2
Phase 2 was the “bulking” phase. We lifted heavier and built muscle. A lot of people experienced bloat and felt a little fluffier this phase, myself included. It was because our muscles were growing and when your muscles start to get bigger you can experience some water surrounding them. This was my least favorite phase because I did feel fluffy and it was a little bit discouraging. But I trusted the process and kept going, especially since Autumn Calabrese (the program creator) said that this was all normal to experience and to keep going! I lost 2 pounds during this phase but holy cow did my muscles grow!

Phase 3
This was my favorite yet hardest phase! Phase 3 was all about sculpting our bodies to show off all the muscle we built during Phase 2. There was Plyo (lots of jumping) and more weights. However, we lifted lighter this phase some because of the jumping. I loved the challenge and the way my body changed with this program. My arms and shoulders sculpted out so nicely! I lost 3 more pounds during this phase.

Peak Week
The last week of the program is called Peak week , basically we cut out some carbs and all fruit so that our bodies would sculpt completely and show off all of our results. The workouts from this week were 2 workouts from each phase and it was fun to mix it up and do workouts form phase 1 to see how much stronger we were now.

The Nutrition

Timed nutrition, I had never heard of it before starting this program. There is a workout block, for example... I worked out in the morning around 9 everyday. So my workout block started at 7:30. I would eat breakfast at 7:30, workout 60-90 minutes after eating. And then after my workout my next meal would be at 11:30 to finish out the workout block. This fuels your body before your workout and then refuels it after you are done.

The first week of this program I had a hard time eating before my workout, normally I wouldn’t eat until I was done. Now, I can’t go back to not eating before a workout. It helped me push harder during my workouts and i loved it!

After the workout block you are supposed to eat every 2-3 hours. The program lays it all out for you which is nice, so it takes the guess work out of it.

My Results

I finished 80 Day Obsession on April 15th and I am very happy with the results I achieved. I lost a total of 10 pounds and 16 inches. I went down 2 pant sizes and 1 shirt size. I am more confident, happier, healthier, and stronger.

Something I learned with this program not to pay attention to the scale but to pay attention to how you feel and how your clothes fit. Because this program worked on gaining muscle, the scale isn't an accurate tool to use to measure your progress. Muscles weighs more than fat. I am still proud of the 10 pounds of weight I lost but I know that I also gained so much muscle.

My Opinion

This program was life changing. I have been recommending it to everybody I know and have so many friends and followers that are now doing it. I plan on doing another round sometime before the year is over.

I changed the way I look at the scale. It changed my eating habits. I now enjoy eating before my workouts. I have learned how to fuel my body for the day and not just to eat because I'm bored or think I'm hungry when I'm actually just thirsty.

Now it's Your Turn!

Ready to start your transformation?! There is not better time then now. Drop the excuses and lets transform your life to a healthier and happier one.

I run monthly accountability groups filled with other women who are on the same journeys as each other. Each working towards bettering themselves. This community of women has helped me to lose over 30 pounds in the last year. They have been there when I needed pushed, when I needed extra motivation. And now I get to help others stay motivated and achieve their health and fitness goals.
