How to Turn a Scarf into a Summer Shrug

I love wearing scarves in the winter time. They are a great way to dress up an outfit plus they help keep you warm! I always have a difficult time trying to figure out how to wear my scarves in the summer time. I don't want to get too hot but I love the colors and patterns on scarves. I figured out a way to tie up your scarf so that you can wear it as a nice shrug over a tank top.

Weather you have a regular scarf or an infinity scarf, this will work with both types.  I'm going to show you how to make this shrug with an infinity scarf first and then a regular, longer, scarf.

First, take your infinity scarf and hold it open while smiling from ear to ear. OK, you don't have to do the smiling part if you don't want to.

Take your scarf and let it open up completely. Hold a corner in each hand.

Next, bring those two corners together and tie them into a knot. See the concentration on my face? this is serious business here.

After you've tied it together, open up the scarf and you will find two little arm holes.

Slip your arms right into those sleeves you made and  TA DA! You have a cute little shrug to wear in the summer time. This is a great idea to use when you feel like you have nothing to wear and want something different.

Here is the back of the scarf. You can see the spot where we tied it together creates a cute little cinched look.

Now onto using a regular scarf. Take any scarf you have, weather it is long or short.

You are going to unfold the whole scarf again and then fold it in half long ways. Hold both corners together with your fingers.

You're going to tie those corners together that your holding , just like you did with the infinity scarf. You'll end up with two arm holes again.

Go on, stick your arms on through those sleeves. There you go again! You have a different style shrug/cardigan to wear.

Again, the back shows where you tied it together and I think it adds some nice character to the scarf.

If you don't like how long the scarf is you can tie together the bottom corners and make a cute little blouse.
Look at that! You made three new outfits! A short shrug, a longer shrug and a blouse. I love the versatile looks of a scarf. I've seen other tutorials on different ways to wear your scarves and I just love them!

Have you worn your scarf as clothes before? How did you do it?

Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day!

XOXO

    1. That's the only bad thing about summer is you can't wear your scarves very easily. Let me know how it turns out for you!
